The role. A position has become available in a small Laboratory Instrumentation early stage company for a mechanical or aeronautical engineer. Seeking an experienced mechanical or aeronautical engineer. The person recruited will be designing and implementing small mechanical systems: Design of basic robotics platforms. CAD design and implementation of meckatronic systems and enclosures. Design of moulded plastic components. Management of sub-suppliers. Product design / development / deployment. You will be working as part of a small motivated team and will be one of the key contributors to the company’s continued success. The candidate: The individual will need to self-motivated, dynamic, have a good work ethic, be flexible in terms of assigned tasks and be able to work both independently and as part of team. The position has the potential to be filled by a mechanical or aeronautical engineer (bachelors or masters or PhD level) with a number of years’ experience. The position is located in Cork City suburbs. Salary commensurate with experience. Duties and responsibilities: Tasks and duties will include: Redesign / optimisation of existing small mechanical / mechatronic systems. Redesign / optimisation of existing small robotics systems. Specification of small mechanical systems and management of sub-contractors. Documentation of system designs and specification of components / sub-assemblies. Project management. Working with customers. Working with other team members. Sourcing of components, sub-suppliers / contractors. Management of sub-suppliers / contractors. Development of various prototype for R&D projects. Able to travel abroad for short trips to customer sites or exhibitions. Skills, Experience and Qualifications: A good qualification / experience in mechanical or aeronautical engineering. Proficient in CAD design. Able to design systems for small or large-scale manufacture. An understanding of materials and material properties. Proficient in desktop applications e.g. word, excel, PowerPoint, etc. Good communication skills. The flexibility to be able to learn new approaches to implementing mechanical and mechatronic systems. Flexible and agile in being able to respond to customer driven requirements. Some or all of the following would be an advantage: Experience in fluid dynamic simulations. Experience in microfluidics. Experience in the design and fabrication of actuators/basic robotics. An aptitude for physics and the ability to learn/understand basic biology/chemistry. A basic understanding of machine vision/optics e.g. cameras / lenses / illumination / image processing. An understanding of thermodynamics. Able to efficiently and safely operate CNC milling machines / lathes / drills. Abel to operate or able to learn how to operate small injection moulding machines. An appreciation of a quality system (e.g. ISO 9001:2008 and ISO13485) and able to work to a quality system. Familiarity with H2020 project execution. Full driving licence.
