Senior Medical Scientist (Permanent. Microbiology. (Under the Governance of Mercy University Hospital Cork CLG.) Responsibilities - The post holder will be responsible for; •Promoting and participating in leading and training a team of skilled staff, creating and promoting healthy working relationships. •Promoting quality assurance for all services offered. •Promoting and participating in the implementation of a ‘quality management’ programme. •Actively promoting and participating in continuing education and research activities consistent with the position assigned or as assigned by management. •Promoting open communications throughout the service. •Reporting directly to and carry out any duties that may be requested by the Chief Medical Scientist or Deputy. •Leading and co-coordinating scientific staff and/or support staff within the Laboratory. Ensure that the team is allocated according to work needs and apply maximum delegation compatible with safety. •Participating in developing and leading the introduction of new ideas and methods according to Mercy University Hospital policy. Eligibility Criteria - Candidates: •In order for Medical Scientists to apply for Senior Posts and be deemed eligible for Fellowship - you must fulfill ALL of the following four criteria: 1. Have at least four years experience as a Medical Scientist. 2. Have held at least two full years membership of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine. 3. Hold a Masters Accredited by the Academy. 4. Be in receipt of a Fellowship award and/or have already attained a statement of eligibility for Fellowship from the Academy. •Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. •Problem solving. Ability to make rational calm decisions. Skills at diagnosis, especially skills of deduction. High level of commitment to tasks undertaken in quality environment. •Must demonstrate flexibility to work in a demand driven environment, enthusiasm, adaptability and a willingness to co-operate. •Good computer skills.
