The Water and Marine Advisory Unit (WMAU), of the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, is responsible for providing strategic advice across business units within the Water and Planning Division in relation to the national water management framework and to provide technical oversight of programmes associated with EU Directives. Reporting to the Senior Advisor in the WMAU, the successful candidate will be based in Cork and assigned to work in the marine area. S/he will form part of the team that leads on the delivery and coordination of professional and scientific advice on the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, Ireland-s input to the OSPAR Convention for the Protection of the North- East Atlantic and Maritime Spatial Planning. The successful candidate will hold a qualification at minimum Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications in a marine-related scientific discipline. S/he will also have, since qualifying, at least five years satisfactory practical experience in significant marine scientific work.
