The Director of Human Health and Nutrition is responsible for leading the health promotion and nutrition functions of safefood particularly in the areas of obesity and food poverty. As a member of the Senior Management Team, they provide advice and guidance to the Chief Executive and have lead responsibility in the strategic development of safefood’s policies in these key areas.  A particularly key aspect of this role is to act as media spokesman for safefood and act as a liaison between safefood and the appropriate agencies and government departments in matters pertaining to health and nutrition.  They take an active role in advising on and implementing policy on the epidemiology of diet-related diseases where these are relevant. Applicants must have a qualification to practice medicine in Ireland or the United Kingdom and hold current membership of a Faculty of Public Health Medicine. They must have a proven track record of relevant experience at a senior level, including: •Liaising and partnering with agencies and government departments. •Crisis management and effective communication. •Implementation of public health measures on food borne diseases including setting up surveillance systems, tracing, dissemination of information, advocacy for the use of preventative measures: •Health promotion and education measures regarding food safety and diet related diseases.  •Previous experience of business planning to include financial budgeting.
