The Director of Human Health and Nutrition (HHN) will lead the health promotion and nutrition functions of safefood particularly in the areas of obesity and food poverty As a member of the Senior Management Team, they will provide advice and guidance to the Chief Executive and have lead responsibility in the shaping of safefoods strategic development of safefoods policies in these key areas. A particularly key aspect of this role is to act as media spokesman for safefood in matters pertaining to health and nutrition. The Director will advise safefood in the surveillance of diet-related diseases on the island of Ireland and act as a liaison between safefood and the appropriate agencies and government departments. As safefoods corporate strategy is underpinned by a partnership approach, the Director will build appropriate partnerships and collaborations with professional counterparts in the public and private sectors in both jurisdictions and at international level. They will take an active role in advising on and implementing policy on the epidemiology of diet-related diseases where these are relevant. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES. Formulation and implementation of strategies. Spokesperson for safefood. Managing partnerships and developing relationships with key external stakeholders. Management of human health and nutrition activity. Provision of key public health and nutrition information to safefood and its Advisory Board and Committees. Leading cross-directorate teams. Staff management. Financial Management and Reporting. More specifically this will entail: Strategy formulation and implementation. Reporting and Budgeting. Managing Partnerships. Obesity and Food Poverty Activities. Surveillance activities. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE. A qualification to practice medicine in Ireland or the United Kingdom. Membership as a specialist of a Faculty of Public Health Medicine. A proven track record of relevant experience at a senior level, including: Liaising and partnering with agencies and government departments. Crisis management and effective communication. Implementation of public health measures on food borne diseases including surveillance systems, dissemination of information, advocacy for the use of preventative measures: Health promotion and education measures regarding food safety and diet related diseases. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE. Experience in media communications. Experience in dealing in cross-jurisdictional public health issues. A postgraduate qualification in management.
