JOB TITLE: Ecologist. REF NO: J5444. REPORT TO: Senior Ecologist/Associate. LOCATION: Cork. CONTRACT STATUS: Permanent. About the Role. RPS are currently seeking an experienced consultant level Ecologist to join our Environmental team based in Cork. You will manage projects and coordinate survey and assessment tasks on a wide range of projects. About the repsonsibilities. Your role will be to assist the Senior Ecologist taking on and independently undertaking a wide range of project tasks. You will undertake ecological surveys (Including habitat protected species, Invasive Species), mitigation design and construction and post-construction supervision and monitoring. You will be responsible for undertaking Ecological Impact Asssessment Reports, Appropriate Assessment Screenings and Natura Impact Statements. You’ll be responsible for the management of project work, particularly your own technical assessments and reporting outputs, together with establishing and maintaining ongoing client relationships. About You. Three or more years’ experience working in a consultancy / regulatory role in the environmental assessment field. A proven track record of working on Environmental Impact Assessment and Appropriate Assessment processes is essential. Degree in Ecology or a related biological/environmental science subject with an ecological component; Excellent field skills and a keen interest and understanding of Irish wildlife; Demonstrated field survey experience in ecology e.g. habitat classification (Fossitt), badger, otter, bat, bird and invasive species surveys; Familiar with relevant Irish and European legislation e.g. Habitats Directive, Birds Directive, EIA Directive, Birds and Natural Habitats Regulations; Knowledge of Appropriate Assessment as per Article 6 of the Habitats Directive; Excellent report writing skills and communication skills with the ability to record data efficiently and methodically. A hard working and highly motivated individual - client focused with good interpersonal skills and team approach; Full Clean Driving Licence. Previous work experience within a professional ecological consultancy (or relevant eNGO or academic experience if applicable); Experience in compiling Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) reports and Appropriate Assessment on the likely impacts of proposed developments, and recommending appropriate mitigation measures; Experience of licensable activities/surveys for protected species such as bat, badger or otter; Interest in ecological sustainability and climate change adaptation; Membership of CIEEM or working towards membership of CIEEM; and. Experience utilising GIS systems e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS and or others. About Us.
