SOCIAL CARE & ACTIVITY LEADER (SCAL. Aim of role. To plan, facilitate and implement stimulating individual and group activities/entertainment based on cognitive ability and life interest of each resident to maintain and enhance physical, cognitive, mental and social well being of residents in Oaklodge Nursing Home. Person Specification. The person specification for this role is: excellent written communication skills Have good computer skill & Social Media ability – Word & Excel & Facebook management ability to communicate effectively at all levels. flexibility in working hours excellent planning, organisation and co-ordination skills. training and/experience in creative therapies, arts and crafts e.g. art, home economics, nursing or Montessori qualification. ability to teach, support and facilitate other staff to carry out activities. ability to work with residents including those with cognitive impairment. Experience of Validation Therapy and Dementia care a distinct advantage. Job specification. Responsible for planning and implementing an activity programme suitable to the individual needs of residents. Provide social and recreational programmes to meet physical, psychological, spiritual and creative needs of each resident through an individualised activity programme. Develop links with local community, community groups and clubs. Set realistic targets and goals for individual and group activities. Design specific activity programmes for residents with dementia, so that their full ability is realised. Support and assist activity & care staff in developing and implementing activities. Liaise with nursing management and activity/care staff in planning and organising activities. Provide a monthly work plan and report to the Director of Nursing and complete an annual report at the end of each calendar year. Monitor and audit the standard of activities being provided and use data to improve and develop service. Ensure supervision of activity staff and volunteers assisting with activities. Keep informed of developments in activity therapies and attend training as required. In consultation with the resident, their family and the care team design an appropriate activity programme that meets specific needs of the resident (e.g. large print book, ear phones to listen to music). Ensure documentation is accurate, up to date and meets the required standard by recording activity plans and assessments in the residents care plan, ensuring that documentation meets the required standard and is updated regularly. Ensure all local policies, procedures and safety standards are maintained at all times. Hours of Work. Full time position: 39 hours per week, flexibility required, rostered hours will include weekends and evenings as required. Rate of Pay. Negotiable, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
