The Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SPFA) is an independent agency with responsibility for the promotion, detection and enforcement of sea-fisheries and food safety law, the collection of data on sea-fisheries and food safety and advising the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine in relation to   relevant matters. This is a key executive senior management position within the fisheries regulatory system in Ireland. It is an exciting opportunity for a strong and inspiring leader to contribute to the EU & National compliance and enforcement regulatory environment and to positively influence the development of the seafood sector in Ireland and EU Common Fisheries Policy objectives through effective regulation of sea fisheries and other core functions of SFPA.   Reporting to the Oireachtas, the Chairperson will bring vision, strategic leadership and effective management across all the functions of the SFPA in order to ensure that it discharges its core regulatory functions effectively and maximises its impact on the future sustainability of the sector. The role involves promoting a culture of compliance with and enforcement of EU & National fisheries legislation and seafood safety procedures. The post holder will develop effective internal and external stakeholder relationships and engage strategically with senior decision-makers in order to help shape current and future regulatory compliance and enforcement.
